Dishwasher/Porter

Le Colonial is looking for a Dishwasher/Porter to join our kitchen staff and maintain cleanliness around our restaurant. Responsibilities include collecting used dishes, plates and utensils, loading washing machines and stacking washed items appropriately. The dishwasher and general utility position is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for china, glassware, tableware, cooking utensils, etc., using machine and manual cleaning methods. This position also ensures the dishwashing area is maintained as a clean, safe, and sanitary facility.

This job operates in a kitchen environment. This role routinely uses sinks and dishwashers and tools to clean kitchen appliances. Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot water, potentially slippery floors, garbage disposals and cleaning chemicals.

Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Collect used kitchenware from dining and kitchen areas
• Load and unload dishwashing machines
• Ability to read and follow instructions
• Adhere to company food safety and security standards
• Wash specific items by hand (e.g. wooden cutting boards, large pots and delicate china)
• Store clean dishes, glasses, and equipment appropriately
• Set up workstations before meal prep begins
• Ensure there are always enough clean dishes, glasses, and utensils, especially during peak hours
• Maintain cleaning supplies stock (e.g. detergents) and place orders when necessary
• Check washing machines’ operation and promptly report any technical/performance issues
• Remove garbage regularly
• Sanitize the kitchen area, including the floor
• Sort and rinse dirty dishes, glass, tableware, and other cooking utensils and place them in racks to send through dish machine
• Sort and stack clean dishes; Carry clean dishes to cook’s line and other proper storage areas; Rewash soiled dishes before delivering
• Change dishwater in dish machine every hour
• Wash pots, pans and trays by hand
• Remove trash and garbage to dumpster
• Set up or break down dishwashing area
• Clean and roll/unroll mats
• Fill/empty soak tubs with cleaning/sanitizing solutions
• Sweep/mop floors
• Assemble/disassemble dish machine
• Sweep up trash around exterior of restaurant and garbage dumpster
• Conduct general restaurant and restroom cleaning as directed
• Wipe up any spills to ensure kitchen floors remain dry
• Notify manager any time dish machine wash or rinse cycle falls below safety standard temperatures
• Do not touch dirty dishes before touching clean dishes without washing hands first
• Other duties as directed

Qualifications:

• Proficient in English or Spanish
• Ability to stand on your feet for several hours
• Must comply with all sanitation procedures
• Ability to read and comprehend labels on chemicals
• Work experience as a Dishwasher or on Wait Staff
• Hands-on experience with industrial washing machines
• Ability to follow instructions and help with various tasks, as needed
• Time management skills
• Attention to detail and sanitation rules
• Availability to work in shifts, during weekends and evenings
• High school diploma is a plus
• Food Handler’s Certification Required

Physical Demands:

• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to perform in high stress environment, while being exposed to heat, cold and steam
• Constant standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
• Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs, and ramps

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This position regularly requires long hours and a schedule that fluctuates based on business needs. Note that this role requires working in shifts and, occasionally, during evenings, holidays or weekends.

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
