Lawton Area Transit System is hiring a dependable and experienced Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician to help maintain our public transportation fleet.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, understands diesel and heavy-duty vehicle maintenance, and wants a steady opportunity working with a professional fleet operation.

What You'll Do

As a Diesel Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician, you will help keep LATS vehicles safe, reliable, and ready for daily service.

Responsibilities may include:

• Perform preventive maintenance and routine fleet inspections
• Diagnose diesel engine and mechanical problems
• Perform repairs on transit buses and fleet vehicles
• Troubleshoot electrical and charging systems
• Inspect and repair brakes, steering, suspension, and drivetrain components
• Perform oil changes, fluid services, filters, belts, hoses, and other scheduled maintenance
• Identify safety defects and recommend necessary repairs
• Complete vehicle inspection and maintenance documentation
• Assist with breakdowns and vehicle-related service issues
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
• Follow LATS safety policies and maintenance procedures
• Work with operations and maintenance staff to minimize vehicle downtime

Mechanics with backgrounds in trucking, construction equipment, military maintenance, municipal fleets, school buses, delivery fleets, agricultural equipment, or other heavy-duty vehicle environments are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates should have:

• Previous diesel, automotive, heavy-equipment, or fleet maintenance experience
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to safely use shop tools and diagnostic equipment
• Ability to identify mechanical and safety-related defects
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
• Ability to work independently and as part of a maintenance team
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to meet applicable employment and safety requirements

Additional certifications, CDL experience, ASE certifications, military maintenance experience, or commercial fleet experience are a plus.
