Position Summary
The Björklunden Kitchen Steward & Hospitality Assistant plays a key role in supporting kitchen operations, food service, sanitation, and general hospitality tasks. This position directly reports to the Björklunden Chef for kitchen‑focused responsibilities. Additionally, as needed this position will also supports the Operations Manager with hospitality and front-of-house needs during events, guest stays, and seasonal programming. The Steward ensures a clean, efficient, compliant, and well maintained kitchen environment and assists with basic food preparation.

The Björklunden Kitchen Steward & Hospitality Assistant plays a key role in supporting kitchen operations, food service, sanitation, and general hospitality tasks. This position directly reports to the Björklunden Chef for kitchen‑focused responsibilities. Additionally, as needed this position will also supports the Operations Manager with hospitality and front-of-house needs during events, guest stays, and seasonal programming. The Steward ensures a clean, efficient, compliant, and well maintained kitchen environment and assists with basic food preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, utensils, surfaces, and food-preparation areas.
- Operate dishwashing machines and ensure dishes and kitchenware are cleaned efficiently.
- Maintain kitchen storage areas and ensure safe food handling.
- Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and materials.
- Assist the Chef with basic food-preparation tasks.
- Prepare basic meals when needed.
- Assist with hosting day groups, retreats, and events.
- Train and oversee staff and student workers in proper kitchen techniques.
- Keep dining areas clean, organized, and guest-ready.
- Provide occasional support to housekeeping teams during low kitchen demand.
- Prior experience in food service, kitchen work, or hospitality preferred; training provided.
- Ability to follow kitchen sanitation standards and safety protocols.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to function in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to collaborate with, and oversee the work of, kitchen assistants, including students.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and peak seasons.
- Must be able to stand and remain on feet for extended periods of time throughout the work shift.
- Must be able to safely lift, carry, push, or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions as needed to fulfill job duties.
