Reports to: Executive Director of Special Education
Job Goal: To provide leadership in the coordination of health services programs so that students and staff may derive benefits from health education/promotion and disease prevention.
Qualifications: Registered Nurse
Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; Advanced degree preferred
Three years nursing with pediatric experience or three years school nursing
Performance and Responsibilities:
- Supervises the coordination of policies and programs related to health services
- Works with various health and social service agencies in the community, both public and private, to integrate school and community programs to benefit students, staff, and families
- Oversees and advises local school health advisory committees
- Works closely with the Health Services Secretary to efficiently ensure appropriate inventory of health clinic supplies and equipment
- Supervises the development of policy recommendations related to health issues and programs
- Oversees the development, implementation, and assessment of staff training programs necessary to implement school health policies and programs
- Oversees school health service, including physical examination, immunizations, and tests for hearing and vision
- Provides consultation to principals regarding roles and responsibilities of health clinic staff and health clinic operations.
- Reports to administration and Board, parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on school medical matters
- Participates with school staff in developing and implementing total school health program
- Advises on modifications of the educational program to meet health needs of individual student
- Prepares and submits reports to the State Board of Health and the Lawrence Douglas County Health Department
- Advises principals regarding exclusion and readmission of students in compliance with Board policy on infectious and contagious diseases
- Attends committee meetings and conferences regarding health services and health curriculum
- Participates in professional development training and coordinates such training programs for school nurses and Health Office Assistants
- Assists Executive Director of Special education, school health committee, and administrators in developing school health service programs
- Provides direct services as assigned for up to one half of contracted time

- Ability to possess and maintain licensure in the state of Kansas
- Ability to speak clearly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner
- Possess composition skills suitable for producing written communication for a variety of readers
- Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice
- Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous, timely and helpful manner
- Ability to perform job responsibilities using appropriate software on district computer system and communication equipment
- Ability to manage job responsibilities while meeting established deadlines
- Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others
- Ability to travel as needed

Salary Range: Certified salary schedule fringe benefits
Salary : $51,000 - $82,942
