What are the responsibilities and job description for the OSSS ITINERANT SPED TEACHER-EARLY CHILDHOOD TEACHER position at Lawrence Public Schools?
REPORTS TO: Works under the supervision of the Early Childhood Director. SUMMARY: Early Childhood Teacher will participate in a multidisciplinary team, conducting educational/academic evaluations, and completing child observations. They will be responsible for synthesizing and analyzing their evaluation findings, report writing, and presenting such information to IEP teams. When applicable, the Early Childhood teacher will develop appropriate IEP goals and objectives. This person will also provide direct services to local community agency classrooms and their staff to build instructional support and educational planning for preschool students. DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS POSITION INCLUDE: Lawrence Public Schools is looking for exceptional and dedicated Early Childhood Educators for anticipated vacancies throughout the district Perform educational evaluations for preschool aged students Attend and present findings at initial IEP meetings Participate in the team meeting process Develop individualized IEP goals and objectives to ensure compliance Plan and coordinate with specialists, related service providers, and other staff members to deliver comprehensive programming for students Communicate with families as appropriate Provide services to Community Partners for students receiving itinerant services to develop appropriate instructional materials, activities, & lesson plans taking into consideration cognitive levels and age- appropriateness of students Support Child Find Screenings Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations Perform related duties as required by the Early Childhood Director Effectively manage time and schedule to assist multiple school teams across the district MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Licensed required: Early Childhood: PREK-2 and Moderate Disabilities PREK-2 through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Master's degree from an accredited institution, preferred Strong knowledge of the IDEA and MA Regulations Experience administering and interpreting screeners Experience developing IEP goals and objectives Experience working with a diverse population of students and families within a multicultural community Strong ability to multitask and work within a fast paced environment focused on student learning, data collection, and measurable outcomes Experience working with students within the inclusion, small group and individual settings Experience working with students with all types of disabilities, as outlined in the MA Disability Categories PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to move in and out of the office, classrooms, buildings, and up and down stairs Must possess mobility to work in a classroom setting and to use standard equipment, including a computer Strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Current authorization to work in the United States Meets all mandated health screening requirements A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment Adheres to the Code of Professional Conduct for School Employees Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies, and administrative guidelines/procedures Ability to establish working relationships with co-workers and function as part of a cohesive team Commitment to keep current with skills essential to the objectives of the position WORK YEAR: Full-time, 183 Days/Annually SALARY: In accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Lawrence Teachers' Union Local 1019, American Federation of Teachers and the Lawrence Public Schools.
