Position Summary:
The Dean of Students is responsible for fostering and maintaining a positive, safe, and productive school climate at Unidos Academy. This role supports student success by promoting positive behavior, building strong relationships with students and families, and ensuring a school environment that is conducive to learning and personal growth.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Supervise Climate Team Associates in the effective execution of Climate’s duties and procedures.
• Safeguard our students’ education by ensuring education is not being disrupted in any classroom.
• Provide students with guidance to improve their behavior and effort to become more successful in school and life
• Maintain organizational systems to track and monitor student climate with complete accuracy (i.e. Suspension database, Dean's List, Individual Behavior Plans, etc.)
• Oversee effective implementation of school-wide behavior system (including consequences (i.e. stumbles) and positive incentives (i.e. 3-pointers)) and use data to analyze and continuously strive to improve the system.
• Effectively communicate and work with families to support students’ effort and behavior.
• Supervise lunches, detentions (during and/or after school), morning entry, and dismissal.
• Lead development and execution of positive incentive system (prize week planning) with support from operations associate.
• Develop and maintain intake and in-house room protocols, materials, set up, and systems to successfully allow students to reset and prepare them to re-enter classroom and continue to learn.
• Determine whether students should be assigned to in-house suspension; serve as principal designee for determining out-of-school suspensions.
• When necessary, create new, efficient, easy to remember systems of organization (e.g. a system for recording number of days, a student has been suspended out of school, etc.).
• Train other staff members and provide feedback to successfully implement intake room procedures.
• When appropriate, call families to inform them of behavior issues; log family contacts on Dean's List.
• Carefully monitor and analyze students with chronic disruptive behaviors; on a regular basis determine whether further interventions are necessary for students to be successful (i.e. behavior plans, Purpose program, etc.).
• Lead the Purpose program entry protocol and process when appropriate.
• Lead the creation of, maintain, and track student behavior plans with students, families, teacher teams, and, when applicable, special education department.
• Develop and lead professional development related to school-wide behavior system.
• Design and organize activities and events that promote a positive school culture for students (e.g. talent shows, celebrations for honor-roll students every quarter, etc.).
• Participate in Student Support Meetings and IEP meetings when necessary.
• Organize and run family meetings focused on behavior issues.
• Serve as a student advisor.
• With rest of administrative team, make decisions to clarify and edit the school-wide consequence and positive incentive system.
• Coordinate floating orientation with mid-year transfer students.
• Other tasks as assigned by the principal.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong instructional coaching skills, including teacher observation, feedback, and evaluation
• Ability to analyze student data and implement targeted interventions and acceleration strategies
• Experience designing and leading professional development and collaborative teacher planning
• Strong leadership and organizational skills to implement school-wide systems and drive instructional improvement
• A capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment and the ability to remain calm and focused when faced with unexpected challenges.
• A desire to work with educationally underserved student populations and their families.
Qualifications & Requirements:
• At least 5 years of work experience including substantial experience both in teaching and instructional leadership roles
• Demonstrated efficacy in raising academic achievement for low-income students in the classroom
• Experience working in a high-performing school organization or other entrepreneurial environment strongly preferred
• Bachelor’s Degree required; Masters preferred
• Massachusetts Principal/Assistant Principal or Supervisor/Director License
• Belief that every student should be held to the highest academic and behavioral expectations.
• Understanding that a structured environment is essential for learning.
• Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred

Pay Range
• $89,967 - $109,460
