As a PRN Infusion Therapy Nurse, you will provide high-quality intravenous (IV) therapy and infusion services to patients in an outpatient setting. This role offers flexibility with shifts assigned based on availability and facility needs. Ideal for experienced nurses seeking work-life balance while delivering specialized care, including antibiotics, biologics, and other IV medications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assess patients prior to infusion therapy, including reviewing medical history, vital signs, lab results, and allergies.
- Insert, maintain, and manage peripheral IV lines, central lines, PICC lines, or ports with proficiency in venipuncture and vascular access.
- Administer IV medications, fluids, blood products, and therapies accurately and safely, following physician orders and established protocols.
- Monitor patients continuously during infusions for adverse reactions, complications (e.g., infiltration, phlebitis), or changes in condition, intervening promptly as needed.
- Educate patients and caregivers on infusion procedures, potential side effects, home care for IV lines, and self-management of therapy.
- Document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, administration, responses to treatment, and education provided, in electronic health record (EHR).
- Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and adjust care plans.
- Maintain a clean, safe infusion environment, adhering to infection control standards and proper handling of hazardous medications.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with infusion nursing best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in infusion therapy, IV administration, oncology, or a related specialty preferred.
- Proficiency in IV insertion and management; experience with infusion pumps and central venous access devices highly desirable.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) a plus.
- Strong clinical assessment skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities, with a compassionate bedside manner.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts.
