PHASE I SUPERVISOR
Position Summary
Phase I Supervisor supports daily Phase I operations with a strong focus on safety, production efficiency, quality control, and equipment reliability. This role works collaboratively to maintain continuity across all areas of Phase I production and ensure operational standards are consistently met.
Reports To: Phase I Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce a safe work environment throughout Phase I operations.
- Monitor critical control points throughout the process, including moisture levels, aeration, stockpile conditions, horse manure consistency, and preconditioning requirements.
- Manage Fancom bunker aeration systems and make process adjustments to support consistent compost quality.
- Troubleshoot Phase I equipment issues, including overhead filling units, Hoving bunker fillers, motors, pumps, and related production equipment.
- Inspect equipment for signs of wear and support preventative maintenance efforts.
- Assist with compost projects, contractor coordination, and operational improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Maintain accurate process and operational records through regular data entry.
- Communicate daily with leadership and team members to support production continuity.
- Identify inconsistencies in materials, moisture, equipment performance, or production flow and recommend corrective action.
- Support production efficiency, quality control, and cost-conscious decision-making across Phase I operations.
- Delegate daily employee tasks and workflows.
Qualifications
Required
- Knowledge of raw material handling, moisture management, stockpile evaluation, bunker aeration, and production quality standards.
- Ability to operate, inspect, and troubleshoot production equipment.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train employees, enforce standards, and work effectively in a shared leadership structure.
- Basic computer and data entry skills required.
Preferred
- Experience in Phase I compost production, agricultural production, mushroom composting, or a related operational environment.
Work Environment
This position requires hands-on work in the Phase I production areas, including both indoor and outdoor production environments. Employees may be exposed to production equipment, raw materials, moisture, varying weather conditions, and physically demanding tasks. Candidates must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds. Success in this role requires flexibility, sound judgment, strong attention to detail, and a consistent commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
