Position Overview
The Spanish Language Teacher designs and delivers an engaging, culturally rich, and developmentally appropriate Spanish program for students from Kindergarten to 8th Grade. The ideal candidate is a passionate educator who inspires a genuine love of language and culture, building proficiency across speaking, listening, reading, and writing in an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
The Spanish Teacher is a valued member of the faculty, collaborating with classroom teachers and administrators to support students' academic growth and their appreciation of the diverse Spanish-speaking world.
Reporting Line: Head of Lower School
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction
- Develop and deliver a comprehensive Spanish language curriculum that builds proficiency and cultural awareness across all grade levels.
- Design lessons that are age-appropriate, differentiated, and responsive to varying levels of language development.
- Foster a positive, immersive classroom environment that encourages participation, confidence, and curiosity.
- Submit written lesson plans as required by administration.
Assessment & Communication
- Assess and monitor student progress regularly, providing timely feedback to students and families.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate proactively with administration and families as needed.
- Document all parent communications and submit to administration as required.
Collaboration & School Life
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate language learning into the broader academic program.
- Attend and actively participate in faculty meetings, Back-to-School Night, parent-teacher conferences, school performances, and professional development.
- Serve as an active, engaged member of the Laurel Hill School community.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field required.
- NYS Teaching Certification in Spanish preferred.
- Prior teaching experience in a school setting (independent or public) strongly preferred, ideally across the Kindergarten–8 grade range.
- Strong bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Enthusiasm for working with students across a broad age range (Kindergarten–Grade 8).
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration, professionalism, and continual growth.
Conditions of Employment
- Submission of a copy of teaching certification and official transcripts required prior to first day.
- Background check and fingerprinting required prior to hire, in accordance with NYS requirements.
Schedule and Compensation
- Full-time, on-campus position aligned with the Laurel Hill School academic calendar.
- Hours: 7:45 AM – 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Salary: $52,000–$55,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications, paid bi-weekly.
