Season: June 29 – August 21, 2026
Hours: 8:15 AM – 4:30 PM
Orientation: June 24–25, 2026 (mandatory; compensated at $100/day)
About Laurel Hill Summer Camp
For over 50 years, Laurel Hill Summer Camp has been one of Suffolk County's most respected day camps. Located in East Setauket, Long Island, we serve children from Preschool through 10th grade in a structured, energetic, and nurturing environment.
Our programs include sports, arts and crafts, drama, music, gymnastics, karate, swimming, nature exploration, games, gardening, computers, rock climbing, swing shot, and tennis — designed to inspire curiosity, build confidence, and create lasting summer memories.

Position 1: Camp Counselor
Eligible Candidates: College freshmen and sophomores (must have completed at least one year of college) Compensation: $4,000–$4,500 for the 8-week season, payable bi-weekly Additional: Eligible for bonuses and tips
Responsibilities
- Supervise assigned campers and ensure their safety at all times
- Lead and actively participate in daily camp activities, including games, sports, arts and crafts, and specialty programs
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and energetic group environment
- Manage camper behavior constructively and report concerns to leadership promptly
- Support theme days, special events, and full-camp programming
- Assist with arrival, dismissal, and bus duty as assigned
- Maintain and organize group areas and equipment throughout the day
- Participate in after-hours staff meetings and 1–2 evening camp events during the season
- Assist with final-week facility cleanup (approximately August 19–21, after dismissal)
Qualifications
- Minimum one completed year of college
- Prior experience working with children in a supervisory, coaching, or mentoring capacity
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Genuine enthusiasm for child development and outdoor activity
- Ability to remain active, attentive, and responsive throughout a full camp day
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred (training available)
- Completion of camp-provided child safety and protection awareness training (required prior to first day with campers)
Position 2: Jr. Camp Counselor
Eligible Candidates: High school students (juniors and seniors preferred) Compensation: $3,500–$4,000 for the 8-week season, payable bi-weekly Additional: Eligible for bonuses and tips
Note: Jr. Camp Counselors are employees, not campers. They perform the same daily duties as Camp Counselors under the direct supervision of a Group Leader or senior Counselor.
Responsibilities
- Supervise campers at all times and support the safety and wellbeing of the group
- Participate actively in all daily camp activities and programs
- Encourage camper engagement, inclusion, and positive behavior
- Collaborate with fellow counselors and group leaders throughout the day
- Support transitions between activities and maintain orderly group conduct
- Assist with setup, clean-up, and organization of activity areas
- Serve as a positive role model through professionalism, kindness, and enthusiasm
- Participate in after-hours staff meetings and 1–2 evening camp events during the season
Qualifications
- Current high school student (junior or senior)
- Experience working with or caring for younger children
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented attitude
- Enthusiasm, reliability, and a positive attitude
- Completion of camp-provided child safety and protection awareness training (required prior to first day with campers)
