Description

Title: Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS)

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Director of Treatment Programs

Position Summary:

A Peer Recovery Support Specialist is an individual in recovery from a substance use disorder who has been trained to support others on their recovery journey. By sharing their own experiences, they inspire hope, serve as positive role models, and demonstrate that recovery is possible.

In this role, the specialist works collaboratively with the individuals we serve and our clinical staff to support each person’s unique recovery process. The specific contributions of a Peer Recovery Support Specialist are shaped by their skills, experiences, education, and interests, offering a variety of opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

With the advantage of lived experience, Peer Recovery Support Specialists bring a unique perspective to the team. They understand the challenges and rewards of recovery because they’ve walked the path themselves, providing authentic support and encouragement to those they serve.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Deliver PRSS services to individuals in addiction recovery programs, tailoring support to their unique needs
  • Coordinate resources and advocacy efforts for clients and their families
  • Utilize evidence-based practices, such as motivational interviewing and trauma-informed care, to conduct individualized assessments in collaboration with clients and their assigned therapists
  • Maintain updated knowledge of community resources to provide clients with appropriate linkage and referrals
  • Complete documentation and reports in compliance with federal, state, and grant requirements
  • Collaborate with treatment teams, including therapists, DHS caseworkers, attorneys, judges, and other stakeholders
  • Attend weekly Adult Drug Court staffing and court hearings as needed
  • Participate in monthly LCDA staff meetings and bi-monthly clinical group supervision
  • Maintain accurate records, ensure confidentiality, and document all activities related to client services
  • Provide a minimum of 45 hours of billable services per month to retain position status
  • Ensure consistent and effective service delivery, demonstrating flexibility in scheduling to meet client needs
  • Respond promptly to phone calls, text messages, and emails, and submit documentation in Think Health by weekly deadlines
  • Abide by all agency policies and program procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on training and experience

Supervisory Responsibility:

This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a clerical, office setting.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Qualifications


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, with a 37.5-hour work week. Work hours and shifts may vary based on business needs and could occasionally include evenings or weekends (Saturday or Sunday).

Required Minimum Job Qualifications, Experience, Education and Skills:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Life experience and two years of recovery from substance use or two years of related behavioral health experience.

Skills: Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.

 

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Must be able to accomplish all duties with little to no assistance.
