Job Title:   Health Educator/Clinical Counselor

 

Division:     Academic and Student Affairs                   Department:  Counseling Center

 

Reports to:  Director of the Counseling Center

 

Employment Status:   Full Time   Part Time   Calendar Year   Academic Year   9 months   10 months    
 

 

JOB SUMMARY: The Health Educator/Clinical Counselor is one of the professional staff members who compose the staff of the Counseling Center. Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, the position of Health Educator/Clinical Counselor has a dual focus:  the coordination and delivery of health/wellness programming; and the provision of direct service mental health counseling to the undergraduate student body. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1.  Serve as the University’s Health Educator, and in that capacity: coordinate the University’s alcohol education program, including the facilitation of AlcoholEdu, and the creation of activities associated with the annual National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week; design and coordinate the Peer Health Education program including the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of the Peer Health Educators (PHEs); as necessary, supervise undergraduate Lasell student (s) serving as Peer Health Intern(s); collaborate with colleagues across the University community to devise a comprehensive menu of health-related programs, to be presented in campus-wide settings and (on request) in the residential buildings.

 

  1. Provide direct service to members of the Lasell University student body:  conduct drop-in and intake sessions; provide short term counseling; provide case management services for off-campus referrals when long term therapy and/or specialized treatment is required; coordinate care with collateral off-campus providers and consulting psychiatrist, when deemed necessary; respond to student mental health emergencies; work with Director to coordinate mental health care for students returning to campus after psychiatric hospitalizations; maintain appropriate client records, including case documentation in confidential files, and scheduling and data collection through Titanium.

 

  1. Provide consultation to Lasell staff and faculty, and families of students, within guidelines of client confidentiality.

 

  1. Promote and provide campus-wide programming on topics including: awareness/prevention of substance abuse and mental illness, sexual assault, and domestic violence; design and implement training/education programs for Residential Life staff, Orientation Leaders, and other student leaders on these (and other) topics.

 

  1.  Communication: students and their families; faculty, staff and administration; establish and maintain close working relationships with various Student Affairs functional units, Campus Police, the Advising Office and the Academic Achievement Center.

 

  1.  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

 

Minimum Education level: Appropriate master’s degree in counseling related field such as: social work, psychology or counseling, with professional licensure in Commonwealth of Massachusetts (see below).

 

Computer skills: Microsoft Office

Other Requirements of the Job: experience in mental health counseling/substance abuse, preferably in a college/university setting; experience in educational programming with adolescents/ young adults; ability to work with a wide range of developmental, mental health and substance abuse issues in older adolescent and young adult population.

 

 

CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION OR LICENSURE REQUIRED BY THE JOB:

 

Current professional licensure in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, or psychology); current professional liability coverage (malpractice insurance); maintenance of up-to-date continuing education requirements.

Salary : $60,000 - $70,000
