Larimer County Road and Bridge is looking for hardworking, motivated individuals to join our team. The Road and Bridge Department is responsible for operating and maintaining the transportation system in Larimer County; the Seasonal Driver positions serve a vital role in our ability to successfully meet this responsibility.

The typical schedule for this position is Monday to Thursday, 7 AM - 5:30 PM. Expected to last 7 months. A road driving test will be administered. Employees are required to wear steel-toe safety shoes, which they must provide. Additionally, this position may qualify for medical insurance benefits.

Responsibilities

What you'll be doing:

  • Assisting with the operation of our fleet of 40 CDL/CMV vehicles, supporting various road maintenance and construction activities, including gravel road maintenance, chip seal, and drainage maintenance.
  • Operating a tandem axle water truck for gravel road maintenance, a tandem axle dump truck to transport construction materials, and a Class A tractor/trailer tanker to deliver asphalt emulsion to chip seal project sites.
  • Operating heavy construction equipment as assigned.
  • Performing physically demanding labor outdoors in all weather conditions, day or night, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects up to 50 pounds regularly.

  • Consistent and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, external agencies, organizations, and community members.
  • Knowledge of heavy highway construction and maintenance principles, practices, and techniques.
  • Ability to read and understand department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Proficiency in Larimer County-approved computer programs, as needed.

  • Related experience preferred.
  • Ability to obtain a Colorado Flaggers Certification within two (2) weeks of employment required.
  • Possession of a valid driver license required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age on date of hire, required.
  • Safety-toe shoes, required.
  • Possession of, and ability to maintain a class ‘B' or a class ‘A' commercial driver license (CDL) without the following restrictions: 'L' -air brake restriction, 'O' –no/Trctr/Trlr restriction(s), ‘E' -No manual transmission, ‘X'-No cargo in CMV tank vehicle or ‘Z' - No full air brake equipped CMV required.
  • Ability to obtain 'N' Tank endorsement by date of hire required.

Please Note

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, reliable, punctual, able to qualify for a CDOT Flagging Certificate and must have a valid Class “A” or Class “B” Commercial Driver's License. An N-Tanker endorsement is preferred. A road driving test will be given.

This job is a DOT-regulated position. If selected for this job title and offered a position within the Road and Bridge Department, the candidate will be required to comply with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) regulations and the Colorado Rules and Regulations Concerning the Minimum Standards for the Operation of Commercial Vehicles. As part of the FMCSA compliance, candidates offered a position at Road and Bridge must be registered in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse. Candidates that currently hold a Commercial Driver's License (CDL ) or Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) at the time of the job offer may register in the Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse at any time in this hiring process, if not already registered.
