POSITION SUMMARY
Foster and adoption coordinators manage temporary housing (foster care) and permanent placements (adoptions) by recruiting/supporting foster volunteers, matching pets with families, screening adopters, coordinating events, maintaining records, overseeing animal health/behavior in foster homes, and promoting animals for adoption, blending volunteer management, matchmaking, and public outreach.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Recruit, train, orient, and support foster parents/volunteers.
· Monitor foster pet health, behavior, and ensure medical needs are met.
· Market animals needing foster care using media/social platforms.
· Screen applications, conduct interviews, and potentially home visits.
· Facilitate pet-adopter matches and oversee meetings.
· Coordinate adoption events and outreach.
· Maintain accurate adoption records and follow-ups.
· Ensure marketing materials (photos, bios) for available pets are updated.
· Maintain program records and prepare reports.
· Handle guest services and assist with daily shelter operations
JOB REQUIREMENTS
· Must be at least a high school graduate (or equivalent) and possess a valid driver’s license
· Must be able to speak in both English and Spanish
· Must be in good physical condition, energetic, and able to work 7 days/week, including some holidays and weekends
· Experience in animal welfare, shelter, or customer service preferred, but not required.
· Must be responsible, reliable, and comfortable with animals

· Learn and use shelter software
· Be organized, detail-oriented and have strong time management skills
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the public, volunteers, staff, and management

· Perform all physical requirements of the position
· Compassion for animals and understanding of welfare needs.
· Ability to work flexibly (evenings/weekends) and handle potentially fractious animals.
· Initiative and ability to work with minimal supervision.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical requirements include frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds with assistance, as well as hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity. Subject to climbing, kneeling, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are inside and outside with frequent exposure to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, noise, dirty environment, confining workspace and unfavorable odors. This position requires working rotating schedules and weekends.
