What are the responsibilities and job description for the Truck Operator position at Lapeer County Road Commission?
Class Description
The Employee in this class will be an experienced Truck Operator with a CDL A and the ability to drive a manual. This position works under the supervision of the District Foreman within District 1 Lapeer Garage.
This position will operate a variety of maintenance or construction equipment such as wheel tractors with attachments and heavy-duty motorized equipment in response to seasonal and project needs, including manual labor duties for the repair, maintenance and development of roads within Lapeer County.
Examples of Work
- Operate trucks with snowplows, underbody blades, wings, sand and salt spreaders and anti-icing equipment.
- Participate in semi-skilled hand tasks as pavement repairs, culvert repairs, painting guardrail and tree trimming and removal.
- Clean and service equipment.
- Clear and clean roadways, rights-of-way, catch basins and other areas.
- Cut and clear roadways and right-of-way.
Knowledge and Skills
- Work requires knowledge of the procedures, materials and equipment used in operation of motorized equipment, such as wheel tractors, light trucks, bulldozers, dump trucks and snow plows.
- Thorough knowledge of street and highway traffic rules and regulations.
- Ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
- Ability to operate and maneuver equipment under difficult conditions.

Physical Mobility - Ability to walk extended distances and climb stairs or ramps to access
Commission and other work related locations and facilities.
Vision and Sight - Ability to read instructions, directions, and similar written
information in letters, memoranda, forms and other documents.
Hearing/Speaking - Ability to converse orally with standard telephones and radios to
receive and communicate information to employees and the public.
Agility/Movement - Ability to lift, push, pull, and manipulate tools, equipment, supplies,
and other objects often weighing upwards to 100 pound. Ability to maneuver in, under and over vehicles and equipment.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the operation of highway trucks with manual transmission.
- Operating maintenance or construction equipment is preferred.
- Previous work roles that follow the Federal Motor Carrier regulations and guidelines is preferred.

Pay: $26.40 per hour
