What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Coordinator position at Lane Steel Co., Inc.?
Lane Steel Co., Inc. is growing and we are hiring a Safety Coordinator for our steel service center in McKees Rocks, PA. The primary work schedule will be Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Please note that the schedule may change based on operational needs.
This role will lead workplace safety, compliance, and risk management across our warehouse and trucking operations. Responsible for identifying hazards, enforcing safety policy, driving training programs, and serving as the primary point of contact for all safety-related matters — including fleet and facility security.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses; evaluate workplace risks and implement preventative controls
- Develop, maintain, and update safety manuals, procedures, and policies to ensure ongoing compliance with OSHA and applicable local/state regulations
- Design and organize safety training programs; manage training delivery through the LMS platform, including new hire onboarding and annual refresher training
- Lead incident investigations for near-misses, injuries, and workers' compensation claims; determine root cause and recommend corrective actions
- Serve as the primary safety liaison for employees, management, and regulatory bodies
- Implement and maintain secure entry protocols for warehouse facilities
- Oversee fleet safety technology, including ELDs and in-cab camera systems, to monitor and support safe driving practices among drivers
- Coordinate and maintain records for monthly Safety Committee meetings, including posting agendas and minutes.
- Collaborate effectively as a team member with other members of management and the Human Resources Department.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3–5 years of experience in a safety role, ideally in industrial warehouse environments
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Experience with LMS platforms and safety training program development
- Familiarity with ELD systems and fleet camera/telematics platforms, as well as DOT/FMCSA requirements
- Excellent investigative, documentation, and communication skills
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) preferred
Pay is based on experience.
