    POSITION PURPOSE:
    This position works under the direction of a licensed CTE teacher to provide instruction to high school students in Manufacturing and Construction Trades at the Lane Career Academy – HOPE Factory. This position supports students in the development and application of manufacturing and construction trades skills in a manufacturing environment. The incumbent must be able to apply equitable and inclusive instructional practices and actively contribute to developing and maintaining a community of belonging in support of the ESDs goal/vision to eliminate academic disparities among students because of race, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assist the CTE teacher in the implementation of instructional activities including occupational knowledge and skills in areas such as safety, metal fabrication, welding, construction, framing, flooring, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roofing, communications, and career preparation.
      • Assist with the student intake process and orient new students to Hope factory facility.
      • Advise students on academic program requirements and post secondary education and career options.
    • Support the classroom teacher in maintaining records of grades, attendance, and collecting information from factory station leads on student progress and skill development.
      • Serve as a key contact with districts for student transportation or attendance.
      • Generate routine attendance reports to support billing districts for student placements.
    • Support the classroom teacher in maintaining Lane Career Academy facilities and equipment.
      • Initiate maintenance requests for classroom equipment in need of repair.
    • Work collaboratively with other staff members and factory station leads in the successful operation of the program.
    • Support the classroom teacher in the preparation and development of materials and activities to prepare students for application of skills in factory stations.
      • Order classroom equipment or supplies.
      • Prepare and organize classroom materials as assigned.
    • Act as liaison and role model while maintaining positive communications with students, factory station leads, as well as appropriate school district teachers, administrators, counselors, and staff.
    • Supervise and support students in a factory setting to ensure student safety, assist factory station leads, and report to classroom teacher as directed.
    • Support the classroom teacher in developing and maintaining contacts with resident district or high school, community and professional organizations.
    • Maintain current knowledge in the CTE area of focus, including equipment, safety and instructional strategies.
    • Support the classroom teacher in creating a learning climate of mutual respect and fairness.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

      • Confidentiality: Maintain confidential student and family information in compliance with state, federal and district requirements.

      • Coordination: Adjusting actions concerning others' actions through independent judgment or with the assistance of the teacher.
      • Service Orientation: Actively looking for ways to help people through independent judgment or with the assistance of the teacher.
      • Social Perceptiveness: Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do through independent judgment.

      • Troubleshooting: Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about them through independent judgment.
    About the Hope Factory
    The HOPE Factory is a collaboration between Lane Education Service District (link opens in new tab/window), Lane CTE, and St. Vincent de Paul Society of Lane County (link opens in new tab/window). The HOPE Factory is located in Eugene. Students will earn two credits at their high school while being taught skills on-site and provided with industry certifications and work-based learning opportunities.
    WHO: High School Seniors who are in 12th grade during the 2023-2024 school year (11th-grade students will be considered, but Seniors will receive priority)
    WHAT: The factory will produce high-quality, affordable, energy-efficient, and fire-resilient manufactured homes intended to support recovery in Oregon, where home losses due to wildfires. The HOPE Factory will provide a learning space for students to train and the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals to learn valuable technical and professional skills. Students will work alongside craft professionals in a handful of trades, including welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and manufacturing.
