GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER/GROUNDSKEEPER

JOB SUMMARY: Lane College seeks a General Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper who will perform general maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment and facilities, including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems. The Groundskeeper will also be responsible for landscaping tasks, using power equipment and hand tools to maintain the facility’s grounds.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintenance Functions:

• Perform general plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs on the facility’s equipment.
• Inspect equipment and systems to identify and resolve issues.
• Maintain buildings, including painting, facility maintenance, and repairs.
• Evaluate facilities to determine necessary maintenance or repairs.
• Work with the maintenance supervisor to plan work priorities, obtain supplies, and assess required skills for tasks.
• Collaborate with team members to discuss daily work assignments.
• Ensure maintenance and repair work is completed safely, effectively, and in a timely manner.
• Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Groundskeeper Functions:

• Mow lawns, trim weeds, and rake leaves as assigned.
• Pick up and remove trash prior to mowing designated areas.
• Trim bushes, shrubs, and hedges.
• Prepare soil and plant flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs upon request.
• Plant and prune trees as needed.
• Assist with cutting trees and removal of debris as necessary.
• Complete snow removal tasks, including shoveling sidewalks, steps, and doorways during winter months.
• Operate snowblower or snowplow to clear roads, driveways, and parking lots.
• Maintain routine maintenance on power equipment.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or 3 years of previous experience in a related field is highly preferred.
• Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
• Good time management skills.
• Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, and crawl into awkward spaces.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time.
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders or kneeling and working outdoors.
