Role Overview
The Senior Job Captain leads the preparation, coordination, and delivery of construction documents from concept through construction. This role is responsible for producing complete, buildable drawing sets, coordinating across disciplines, and ensuring technical accuracy. The position operates with a high level of independence and takes ownership of the drawing set, resolving issues proactively and delivering work that requires minimal oversight from Principals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead full preparation and coordination of construction documents from schematic design through final CDs without reliance on step-by-step direction
- Own drawing set quality and perform thorough QA/QC prior to final review
- Serve as a key point of contact for consultants and support client communication, resolving coordination and technical issues with minimal oversight
- Translate design intent into buildable, accurate documents based on real construction understanding
- Support and maintain project schedules, ensuring deliverables stay on track
- Lead entitlement and permit submittal packages with minimal oversight
- Actively participate in construction administration, including RFIs, submittals, and site visits
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture
- 3–5 years of professional experience, with demonstrated ability to independently produce and coordinate full construction document sets
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD with ability to produce efficient, accurate documents
- Strong understanding of construction detailing and how drawings translate to built work
- Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines independently
- Experience leading production on complex or multi-phase projects
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Lumion, and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and time management skills with minimal supervision
- Clear, direct communication with team members, consultants, and contractors
- Valid driver's license and ability to regularly visit project sites
Preferred (Not Required)
- Experience participating in construction administration (RFIs, submittals, site visits)
- Direct exposure to built work and contractor coordination
- Ability to translate field observations into improved documentation
Location Requirement
This is a full-time, in-person role based in Orange County, CA. Candidates should be located in the Orange County region or able to reliably commute daily.
