Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
Working together, two Summer Traffic Counting Technicians will drive a county vehicle to data collection sites and set automatic traffic counters on roadways located in various parts of the county. Other data collection including manual traffic counts, transportation travel-time studies and infrastructure inventory may also be required. Training will be provided.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Summer Traffic Counting Technicians will work under the general guidance and supervision of the Director of Land Use and Transportation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Completion of required training.
• Following PennDOT and County Safety Policies.
• Locating sites for data collection by using a map and written instructions.
• Driving the County-owned vehicle to identified sites throughout Lancaster County.
• Programming traffic counters.
• Producing tables and graphs of collected data.
• Use of hand tools to set and retrieve traffic counters and hoses.
OTHER SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES
• Review of reports, studies, or other documents to collect data or information.
• Collection of traffic data using manual counters.
• Compiling and analyzing data collected.
• Inventory of roadway features, traffic control devices, signs, or other appurtenances.
• Other tasks or duties, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Valid PA Driver's License.
• Comfortable driving to various locations.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to read maps.
• Ability to work both independently and in groups.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Familiarity with ArcGIS helpful, but not required. Â
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/CLEARANCES
• Valid PA Driver’s License.
• Acceptable pre-employment driver history check in accordance with County Policy.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Must wear safety vest, hardhat, and proper footwear.
• Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
• Work to be performed outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
