What are the responsibilities and job description for the Appraiser position at Lancaster County Economic Development?
Description
Under occasional supervision, appraises real estate for the County to accurately calculate property taxes, which involves conducting fieldwork to gather information, completing appropriate documentation, and performing related office work. Reports to the Assessor, Deputy Assessor and Chief Appraiser.
Examples of Duties
Duties include but are not limited to: Conducts field work to gather information for the assessment process, which involves thoroughly inspecting property. Prepares appraisal reports including detailed description of land and buildings, the value of land, buildings and improvements and a sketch and pictures of parcel being appraised. Prepares maps for the public as requested. Provides assistance to the general public inquiring over the phone and in person regarding real property or any other property in the County. Performs various office functions such as typing, filing, data entry, answering phones, and faxing information. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as road maps, property records, legal residence, appeals, abatements, agricultural forms, deeds, plats, etc. Reviews real property valuation appeals in accordance with SC State Code of Laws. Operates a variety of equipment, which may include a computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone, vehicles, cameras, calculator, etc. Interacts and communicates with departmental supervisors and employees, County department heads and employees, realtors, attorneys, taxpayers, surveyors, appraisers, and the general public.
Typical Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor’s degree supplemented by a minimum of one year experience in appraising real estate, real estate sales or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of Patriot CAMA System preferred. SC Appraisal license preferred or license eligible. Must have valid driver’s license.
