Elementary Special Education Teacher (2025-2026)

Position Overview:

Élan Academy Charter School is seeking a passionate, dedicated, and highly collaborative Special Education Teacher who will be an integral part of our mission to provide an academically challenging, disciplined, and joyful learning experience for all students. As a Special Education Teacher, you will work alongside a dynamic team of educators to support students with diverse learning needs, advocate for their success, and ensure high levels of compliance with educational regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaboration & Teamwork: Work closely with general education teachers, special education staff, school administrators, and families to develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs). Foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork to ensure that all students receive the support they need to thrive academically and socially.

• Student Advocacy: Be a strong advocate for each student, providing the guidance, support, and encouragement needed for them to succeed. Tailor instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of each student, ensuring they have the tools and resources to reach their highest potential.

• Compliance & Documentation: Ensure that all IEPs are developed, implemented, and regularly reviewed in compliance with IDEA, 504 plans, and other special education regulations. Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of student progress, accommodations, and modifications as required by law.

• Curriculum Design & Differentiation: Adapt and differentiate the curriculum to meet the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring that all students have equitable access to a high-quality education. Use data to inform instruction and provide targeted interventions where necessary.

• Family & Community Engagement: Maintain strong, open lines of communication with families, providing regular updates on student progress and collaborating with them to support the academic, social, and emotional needs of their children. Engage with community resources to support student development.

• Professional Growth & Collaboration: Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities, continuously striving to improve instructional practices and maintain up-to-date knowledge of special education laws and best practices. Collaborate with colleagues to create a supportive and growth-oriented school culture.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field 
• Proven experience in teaching students with disabilities and developing/implementing IEPs
• Deep understanding of special education laws and regulations (IDEA, 504, etc.)
• Ability to work collaboratively in a high-performing, mission-driven team environment
• Strong communication skills, with a passion for advocating for all students
• Organizational skills and a commitment to maintaining compliance
• A growth mindset, with a willingness to accept and act upon feedback
