Job Summary
Lamar University is seeking a dependable and professional Campus Security Officer to support safety and security operations at Cardinal Village student housing. This part-time position plays a critical role in ensuring the safety of residents, staff, and visitors through active patrols, monitoring, and incident response.
Essential Job Functions
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities

Patrol Cardinal Village housing areas and monitor for safety concerns

Enforce university and housing regulations consistently and fairly

Respond promptly to emergencies, disturbances, or suspicious activity

Monitor building access and verify authorization for entry when required
-
Provide assistance to students, staff, and visitors with directions or safety escorts
-
Report hazards, safety violations, and incidents to supervisory staff

Prepare written reports of daily activity, incidents, and security concerns

Assist with crowd control, special events, and emergency procedures as directed
- Perform other security-related duties as assigned
Minimum and Desired Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent

Must be at least 18 years of age

Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergency situations

Dependable, punctual, and professional in conduct

Ability to patrol indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and respond physically to emergency situations
Prior security, law enforcement, or military experience
CPR, First Aid, or related safety training/certifications
Knowledge of campus safety practices or residential community security
