They will assess, assist, and encourage the students in the learning processes. This position will also review materials used in classes, explain various topics, and address all the doubts and questions of the student in regards to that topic. The Professional Tutor will function as a supplementation to the classroom teaching. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Services.Duties/Responsibilities
Tutor students enrolled in college-prep (developmental) courses to remove deficiencies and prepare them for success in college-level, credit-bearing courses.
Conduct one-on-one and small group tutorial sessions for a variety of courses, with emphasis on study strategies, and mathematics through College Algebra.
Provide students preparing for placement tests (such as TSI), as well as other exams required for program entrance (TEAS, HESI, etc.), with study resources and direction.
Consult with individual students to identify their needs in a variety of academic subjects and offer tutoring and other resources to address those needs.
Work in conjunction with faculty to provide students with assistance/resources to aid them in completing assignments and meeting course objectives.
Keep records of tutorials, as requested by the Learning Center Director and/or instructors.Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
Demonstrated proficiency in specific tutoring subject areas (A or B grades in courses)
Computer proficiencySupplemental Information Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
