The Health & Safety Manager leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs at the North Dakota production facility, Dakota Yeast, supporting the biofuels and distilled spirits industries. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, reduces workplace risk, strengthens the site’s safety culture, and provides hands on support to employees, supervisors, and leadership. The Health & Safety Manager partners closely with Production, Engineering, and QA, to maintain a safe, compliant, and high-performance environment.

Role Overview
The Health & Safety Manager leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety programs at the North Dakota production facility, Dakota Yeast, supporting the biofuels and distilled spirits industries. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, reduces workplace risk, strengthens the site’s safety culture, and provides hands on support to employees, supervisors, and leadership. The Health & Safety Manager partners closely with Production, Engineering, and QA, to maintain a safe, compliant, and high-performance environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and maintain site health & safety programs, ensuring full OSHA compliance and adherence to regulatory and company safety standards across all operations.
- Drive a proactive safety culture through regular floor presence, employee coaching, and reinforcement of safe work practices in fermentation, utilities, packaging, and sanitation areas.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate workplace risks by conducting hazard assessments, JSAs, industrial hygiene monitoring, and leading incident investigations with root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Manage core safety programs including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Hazard Communication, Chemical Safety, PPE, Emergency Response, and Contractor Safety.
- Develop and deliver effective safety training for employees and contractors on chemical handling, equipment safety, emergency response, and GMP-related risk controls.
- Monitor, analyze, and report safety performance metrics, identifying trends and implementing continuous improvements to prevent injuries and enhance compliance.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of health & safety experience in a manufacturing environment; fermentation, chemical, or industrial settings preferred
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA and related regulatory frameworks is required
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including fermentation, utilities (steam, compressed air, CIP/SIP), chemical storage, and sanitation systems is required
- Proficiency in incident investigation techniques, hazard assessment tools, and safety data management is required
