Job Summary:
The EHS and Sustainability Specialist supports our Environmental, Health, and Safety functions by tracking and analyzing company-wide safety and environmental metrics. The EHS and Sustainability Specialist serves as the EHS software systems administrator, develops dashboards and reports, and helps drive data-informed decisions to improve safety and environmental compliance across the organization. This hybrid role combines compliance-focused data management, sustainability analytics, and stakeholder engagement-helping to drive safer operations, regulatory compliance, and measurable progress toward the company's environmental goals. This role will also support internal and external outreach efforts to communicate performance, educate stakeholders, foster collaboration, and build alignment around key sustainability priorities.

Essential Job Duties:
- Serve as administrator for EHS software platforms (e.g., incident management systems, training portals, compliance tracking).
- Develop dashboards and reporting tools to track key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety, compliance, and environmental performance, including Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Accident Frequency Rate (AFR), and Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. Analyze trends in incidents, inspections, audits and emissions to identify risks, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and distribute recurring reports and KPIs for leadership, operations, and regulatory compliance.
- Identify emerging trends and recommend preventive actions or corrective measures.
- Partner with field safety, compliance, and operations teams to ensure accurate data entry and timely reporting.
- Facilitate Material Recovery Facility (MRF) tours, site visits and presentations with key stakeholders, including city officials, educational institutions, businesses, and packaging designers, to showcase recycling operations and identify opportunities for partnership.
- Support EHS audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions through data analysis and reporting.
- Assist with data integrity checks and troubleshooting of software/system-related issues.
- Support annual sustainability reporting, including data verification and alignment with frameworks (e.g., GRI and GRESB).
- Assist in implementing and maintaining safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.
- Participate in safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Assist in ensuring contractors and vendors meet company safety requirements.
- Conduct field observations and job hazard analyses (JHAs) under the supervision of senior safety staff.
Scope of Responsibility:
The EHS and Sustainability Specialist supports company-wide environmental, health, safety, and sustainability initiatives by managing EHS data systems, tracking key performance metrics, and generating dashboards and reports that inform decision-making. This role analyzes trends in safety incidents, environmental impacts, and compliance activities to identify risks and improvement opportunities. The specialist also contributes to sustainability reporting, supports audits and inspections, engages with internal teams and external stakeholders, and represents the company through facility tours and outreach efforts. Combining technical data analysis with operational support, this role helps advance safe practices, regulatory compliance, and progress toward organizational environmental goals.
Requirements:Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Proficiency in Excel, Power BI (or similar data visualization tools).
- Experience with EHS software systems (e.g., Process Maps, KPA) is a plus.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and make actionable recommendations.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to confidently speak in front of diverse audiences to represent and promote LRS's sustainability initiatives and mission.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Sustainability, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a data analysis or EHS-related role preferred.
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Regularly required to talk and hear, both in person and by phone or web meetings.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to read and interpret data on a computer screen or printed documents.
- Work is performed in a typical office environment with moderate noise levels, in a climate-controlled environment with heating and air conditioning.
- Potential for remote work or hybrid work arrangement.
- May be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
