- Performs all procedures that electrographically record sleep and its associated phenomena, including the application of patient monitoring devices and the calibrations of recording.
- Continuously monitors patient activity throughout the recording period, maintaining quality recordings through recognition and correction of artifact, while remaining vigilant of patient safety and comfort.
- Recognizes life-threatening abnormalities and reacts competently in stressful and critical situations. Must maintain Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
- Hand scores polysomnographic study and computer-generated records, based on ASDA and Rechtschaffen and Kales scoring criteria.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, or arrange for the provision of appropriate care for adult and geriatric patients. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Interprets the appropriate information needed to identifies each patient’s requirements and ensures and documents that age specific needs are being met as described in the departmental policies and procedures.
- Accurately completes charge sheet for all procedures.
- Adheres to the facilities guidelines for human relations in dealing with staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
- Maintains educational requirements to meet standards of the position and attends mandatory in-services as required.
- Adheres to quality control, infection control, and quality assurance guidelines for equipment and the work area.
- Adheres to administrative, personnel, and departmental policies. Reviews departmental policies annually and attends all related in-services.
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
Essential:
- Understanding sleep physiology, sleep stages, and various sleep disorders.
- Proficiently using and understanding medical language
- Knowing basic patient care procedures, vital signs, and emergency protocols.
- Adhering to ethical and legal requirements, including patient confidentiality.
- Familiarity with the equipment used, including testing, calibration, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of how to score polysomnographic data using standards set by the AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine).
Qualifications & Experience
- High School or Equivalent
