MRI technologists utilize their communication, patient care and collaborative skills to interact with patients and other members of the health care team. They are responsible to ascertain each individual's safety in the MR environment before entering the magnetic field. MRI technologists utilize their knowledge of anatomy, physiology and the principles of MRI to safely and efficiently operate MRI scanners, assisting in the diagnosis of disease and injury. Responsible to practice within their scope of licensure in accordance with approved policies, procedures and protocols.

Position Responsibilities
Standard Work Duties: MRI Technologist
- Safely and efficiently operates the MRI unit to perform MRI procedures according to department SOP and physician approved scanning protocols
- Ensure the safety of patients, staff and visitors who come in contact with the powerful magnetic field of the MRI scanner. This is done by reviewing the MRI screening forms, researching all implanted devices to ensure MRI compatibility and, if necessary performing a physical check of the patient to look for items that are not MRI safe.
- Explain MRI procedures, answer patients' questions as fully as possible and provide emotional support to allay apprehension and elicit cooperation.
- Transfers patient to gantry, positions patient and coils and applies immobilization devices as needed.
- Maintains required files and records for periodical surveys as required by our accrediting bodies (ACR) as well as CMS and the Joint Commission
- Administers contrast media following established sterile techniques for intravenous injections.
- Safely operates peripheral equipment such as the power injectors, patient monitors and MRI safe infusion pumps.
- Educate new staff and students of any teaching institutions
- Ensures all electronic documentation is completed in the HER, RIS and PACS systems, to assure that physicians have pertinent information needed for better results of radiologic image turnaround time
- Organizes job functions and work assignments to be able to effectively complete duties and responsibilities. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Essential:
- Knowledge of routine, trauma, and specialized MRI procedures, including but not limited to, Neuro, Ortho, Body and Cardiovascular MRI
- Patient Assessment skills
- Venipuncture skills Able to establish an IV site
Qualifications & Experience
- Associate Degree
- Bachelor Degree
- Graduate of a JRCERT accredited program in Radiologic Technology or MRI Technology
- Any major
- Basic Cardiac Life Support
- R.T. Magnetic Resonance Imaging
- Certified Radiologic Technologist
