What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant - Eye Care position at Lakefront Eye Care, LLC?
About Lakefront Eye Care Aesthetics & Wellness
Lakefront Eye Care Aesthetics & Wellness is a thriving, independent, patient-focused private practice in Edgewater, Colorado. We've expanded into cutting-edge medical aesthetics and holistic eye health to treat chronic ocular conditions while offering advanced, non-invasive aesthetic treatments.
We pride ourselves on a collaborative, non-corporate team environment and a commitment to advanced technology—including IPL, RF, RF Microneedling, EMFace, and EXOMind.
The Opportunity: High-Tech Patient Care
We're seeking an energetic, dependable, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our growing team.
If you have experience in medical assisting, patient care, ophthalmology, optometry, or another hands-on healthcare role, your skills may be an excellent fit for our practice.
No prior eye care experience is necessary. We're happy to train the right candidate on our specialized diagnostic equipment and optometric procedures.
We're looking for someone who learns quickly, takes initiative, enjoys working directly with patients, and takes pride in delivering exceptional care.
This is a combined clinical and front desk position. While clinical pre-testing and patient care are primary responsibilities, all team members actively support front desk operations—including welcoming patients, check-ins, check-outs, and collecting payments. Flexibility and teamwork are essential to keeping our practice running smoothly.
Our dedicated team of Health Care Virtual Assistants (HVAs) handles much of our phone scheduling, benefits verification, referral coordination, prior authorizations, and chart preparation—allowing our in-office team to focus on hands-on patient care and a seamless patient experience.
What You'll Do
- Clinical Pre-Testing & Diagnostics: Perform or learn to perform visual acuities, autorefraction, iCare tonometry, Medmont topography, Firefly meibography, Eidon Retinal imaging, Zeiss Cirrus OCT, and Olleyes VisuALL visual field testing.
- Front Desk & Patient Experience: Actively assist with greeting patients, managing check-ins and check-outs, collecting copays and payments, and keeping patient flow running smoothly. Front desk responsibilities are an expected part of this position.
- Seamless Clinical Flow: Review and verify patient medical histories, medications, and chief complaints to ensure accurate, complete charts before examinations.
- Contact Lens Care: Assist patients with contact lens insertion and removal training, fitting procedures, and vision assessments.
- Aesthetics & Wellness: Learn about our advanced skincare, wellness, and aesthetic offerings and confidently introduce interested patients to services that may benefit them.
- Team Support: Work collaboratively with doctors, technicians, and front desk staff, transitioning between clinical and administrative duties as needed.
Why You'll Love Working Here
- Advanced Clinical Training: Gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art diagnostic and aesthetic technology. We provide training on specialized optometric procedures and equipment.
- Career Growth: Build valuable clinical skills in eye care, advanced diagnostics, and patient wellness.
- Major Aesthetic & Wellness Perks: Opportunities to experience select in-house aesthetic and wellness treatments, helping you become familiar with the services we offer.
- Dedicated Administrative Support: Our HVA team manages many routine administrative tasks, allowing our in-office team to focus on patients rather than spending the day answering phones.
- No Weekends: Our office closes Friday at noon, with no Saturdays or Sundays.
- Collaborative Culture: Join an independent, non-corporate practice where teamwork, initiative, and professional development are valued.
What We're Looking For
- Healthcare Experience: At least one year of medical assisting, patient care, or related healthcare experience preferred. Prior optometry or ophthalmology experience is a strong plus.
- Fast Learner: Comfortable mastering new technology, medical procedures, and clinical workflows.
- Patient-Centered: Warm, professional, and confident communicating with patients.
- Dependability & Precision: Reliable, detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain accuracy in a busy environment.
- Initiative & Teamwork: Someone who recognizes what needs to be done and actively helps, whether that means preparing patients, performing testing, or assisting at the front desk.
- Versatility: Willing and able to transition between clinical responsibilities and front desk support throughout the day.
- Certifications: Medical Assistant certification, COA, CPO, or CPOT certification is a plus, but not required.
Schedule: Full-time. Office hours are Monday 8am–5pm, Tuesday 8:30am–5:30pm, Wednesday 10am–7pm, Thursday 9:30am–5:30pm, and Friday 7am–noon. No weekends.
