Compensation & Benefits
Part-time, hourly position: $21–$35/hour (DOE)
-Free LUC membership with 24-hour facility access
-Coach’s locker, branded gear, and equipment support
-Travel expenses covered for regattas
Key Responsibilities
-Program Leadership & Training Design
-Develop and implement a comprehensive, periodized training plan aligned with the team’s competitive goals and takes into account the ages of the athletes
-Integrate on-water sessions, land workouts, and strength training
-Foster a long-term, supportive, goal-driven environment
-Technical Coaching & Athlete Development
-Deliver expert technical instruction and video analysis
-Provide individualized feedback to promote continuous improvement
Competition & Logistics
-Manage all regatta planning, entries, travel, and equipment
-Develop race strategies to optimize performance
-Team Leadership & CultureInspire dedication, discipline, and teamwork
-Promote a culture of respect, sportsmanship, and collaboration
-Support coxswain recruitment and developmentPartner with team captains and other LUC coaching staff
Communication
-Maintain consistent, transparent communication with athletes and staff
-Provide regular written updates on training progress, plans, and upcoming events and deadlines
Safety & Equipment Oversight
-Ensure athlete safety in all sessions
-Oversee maintenance of boats and equipment in collaboration with Boathouse Manager
Requirements
-Lead year-round practices three mornings per week (5:00–6:30 AM M/W/F) and additional sessions as needed (approx. 1x/month).
-Flexibility to work variable hours, including occasional weekends and travel for regattas4 years of competitive rowing coaching experience
-Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
-LUC requires and will assist with obtaining the following: Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certificationCurrent Boater’s LicenseCurrent SafeSport CertificationSuccessful background check through the National Center for Safety Initiatives
Lake Union Crew | Seattle, WA
Lake Union Crew’s Nationally Competitive Women’s (NCW) Team is one of the oldest and most successful masters programs in the United States. Founded in 1998, the team has won first place trophies at the Head of the Charles, the San Diego Crew Classic, US Master’s Nationals, and multiple regional regattas. The NCW team currently consists of 28 competitive women, ages 26-79.
We row hard, support each other, and are buoyed by the support of a team which is strongly aligned in terms of work ethic, and value of rowing competitively as a lifetime endeavor. The NCW team belongs to the Lake Union Crew (LUC) boathouse which serves 400 rowers in various other programs and teams from novice to nationally competitive, from juniors to former and aspiring Olympians.
The NCW program competes in both sweep and sculling events, supported by a deep roster of athletes, coxswains, and an engaged club community. The NCW Team seeks a coach to lead us to our next level of teamwork, speed, and legacy.
Strong candidates will combine technical excellence with genuine enthusiasm for athlete development, team culture, and competitive achievement. Must be a strategic planner, strong communicator, and motivator who can provide strong leadership in a collaborative environment with a focus on long-term, competitive athletes.
