Lake Superior Community Health Center is currently seeking a Medical Lab Technician (MLT)
Job Summary:
The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) will work as part of the health care team. The MLT is responsible for collection of specimens and performing laboratory tests. The MLT ensures the lab is run per CLIA and COLA standards; problem solves and troubleshoots the day-to-day operations of the lab and testing equipment; develops and performs quality assurance activities, educates testing staff, and keeps policy and procedures up to date.
Job Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program
- BLS Certification required or obtained within 90 days of hire
- Minimum of 2 years' experience
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of laboratory functions in a Physician office setting.
- Knowledge of Universal Precautions, MSDS, generally accepted safety practices and quality control practices for lab services.
- Knowledge of medical record documentation practices related to lab services.
- Ability to perform phlebotomies and fingerstick collections and obtain accurate vital signs
- Ability to work independently under general administrative and medical direction.
- Ability to write legibly, see and perform visual microscopic analysis.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to prioritize and organize, meet time deadlines
Licensure and Credentials:
- Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Medical LaboratoryScience
- ASCP, NCA or equivalent certification
Functions and Responsibilities:
1.0 Collects and processes specimens
2.0 Troubleshoots and maintains lab testing equipment
3.0 Monitor laboratory protocols and QA/QI
4.0 Comply with CLIA and COLA guidelines and standards
5.0 Verify all testing staff are properly performing duties as required for accurate and reliable results through:
5.1 Proficiency testing as per CLIA and COLA guidelines
5.2 On site observation and consultation
5.3 Education and training on use of testing equipment, procedure and relevant lab topics
6.0 Work with testing staff to maintain inventory of lab supplies and testing materials
7.0 Work with and find vendors that supply quality testing materials and programs, but keep lab costs down
8.0 Maintain patient confidentiality
9.0 Works with Safety Officer on lab safety issues
9.1 Ensures the lab environment is safe for patients and testing personnel
