What are the responsibilities and job description for the Coordinator, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) position at Lake-Sumter State College?

The Student Accessibility Services Program Coordinator serves as a liaison for all student life and student support offices, providing support to promote disability inclusion practices in existing services. Interact and collaborate with program staff, students with disabilities and their family members, college staff, and community members who support student participants.

Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

  • Work collaboratively with students, faculty, and community partners to develop and implement specialized programs and services that reframe disability and improve the accessibility of campus for students with disabilities.
  • Recommend learning strategies and coordinate the provision of access and reasonable accommodations in consultation with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Administer and interpret psychoeducational evaluations.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with college and community partners.
  • Establish and maintain a system for tracking student and program processes and maintain records, including documenting communication with and regarding students and recording recommended courses of action or accommodations.
  • Oversee data collection related to student assessment and performance.
  • Maintains office workflow and procedures, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Assist with the coordination of auxiliary services.
  • Assist with the coordination of educational outreach, seeking and maintaining contacts and referral sources in the community for student benefit.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Working knowledge of legislation related to persons with disabilities, the functional aspects of disabilities, reasonable accommodations, and accessibility, including knowledge of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and Section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess detail-oriented and highly organized skills, Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret psychoeducational evaluations.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds.
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

  • Ability to work various hours, including nights, early mornings, and weekends
  • Ability to travel amongst various campuses and attend College events, on or off campus, as required.
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related human services discipline.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of experience providing direct support in a disability-related field and/or post-secondary education.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Preferred:
  • Experience in higher education.
