Lake Lure Classical Academy (LLCA), North Carolina
Position Summary
The Elementary Teacher at Lake Lure Classical Academy creates meaningful, engaging learning experiences that align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and the Core Knowledge curriculum. Teachers foster intellectual growth, character development, and a love of learning while supporting a structured, content-rich, classical education environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instruction & Planning
- Develop and maintain instructional plans aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study, Core Knowledge sequence, and LLCA instructional priorities
- Design lessons that include clear objectives, modeling, guided practice, independent work, and assessment
- Present content using research-based instructional practices with relevant examples and appropriate modifications
- Integrate cross-curricular connections, including outdoor education and experiential learning opportunities
Student Learning & Assessment
- Use a variety of formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and guide instruction
- Provide timely, specific feedback to students on their work
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student performance
- Develop and implement Personalized Education Plans (PEPs) as required
- Maintain high expectations for all students and support continuous academic growth
Differentiation & Student Development
- Understand how students learn and develop and provide learning opportunities that support intellectual, social, and personal growth
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Foster critical thinking, problem solving, and academic discourse
- Encourage student ownership of learning and self-motivation
Classroom Environment & Management
- Establish clear expectations, routines, and procedures aligned with LLCA’s school-wide systems (e.g., SOAR)
- Maintain a structured, orderly, and respectful classroom environment
- Monitor student behavior consistently across all settings (whole group, small group, transitions)
- Address behavior promptly while maintaining student dignity
- Maximize instructional time and student engagement
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues using verbal, written, and digital tools
- Foster positive relationships with families to support student learning and well-being
- Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and administration
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and data discussions
Professional Responsibilities
- Reflect on instructional practices and seek continuous professional growth
- Participate in required meetings, including faculty, grade-level, and professional development sessions
- Develop and implement a professional growth plan aligned to school and district goals
- Serve as a positive representative of LLCA within the school and broader community
- Support school programs, field trips, and extracurricular activities
Experiential & Community-Based Learning
- Incorporate experiential learning opportunities, including field trips and use of community resources
- Support LLCA’s emphasis on outdoor education and hands-on learning experiences
- Connect classroom instruction to real-world applications
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or related field
- North Carolina teaching licensure in Elementary Education (or eligibility to obtain)
Preferred
- Previous experience working with elementary-aged students
- Experience with Core Knowledge or classical education
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of data-driven instruction and MTSS processes
Terms of Employment
- 10-month position
- Salary based on North Carolina Teacher Salary Schedule
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with:
- North Carolina Educator Effectiveness System (NCEES)
- LLCA Board policies and administrative guidelines
