- JOB SUMMARY:** The Laboratory Manager is a full-time, grant-funded position supported by the NOJ Foundation Grant that ensures the efficient, compliant, and high-quality operation of an active research laboratory at LECOM Elmira. This position provides comprehensive oversight of laboratory operations, regulatory compliance, and animal care management. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability and continuation of external grant funding. The Laboratory Manager serves as a central operational and administrative resource, supporting research personnel by maintaining a safe, well-organized, and fully functional laboratory environment that enables successful execution of funded research activities. The anticipated pay rate is expected to be $29/hour but is dependent upon grant funding.
- Overseeing daily lab activities by ensuring that the lab is functioning effectively, with all equipment and resources in proper working condition. This includes scheduling and overseeing repairs, calibration, and maintenance;
- Procure supplies and manage inventory: Order necessary materials, chemicals, and lab equipment to meet research needs;
- Maintain an inventory of lab supplies and equipment, ensuring stock levels are adequate;
- Maintain entire lab chemical inventory and ensure the lab meets institutional and OSHA safety and waste disposal standards;
- Assist with and contribute to safety training of new researchers;
- Manage lab documentation, standard operating procedures, protocols;
- Continuing Education: Present at- and attend scientific meetings to stay informed about new techniques, research, technologies, and best practices in our field of research and animal management;
- Manage animal care: In charge of the avian care, including:
- Manage the quail care team;
- Set enrichment and breeding schedules;
- Perform husbandry chores as needed;
- Monitor and manage animal collection health;
- Contribute to overall student success and participate in student events, including, but not limited to, White Coat Ceremony and Commencement;
- Contribute directly to the Mission of LECOM by assisting with Institutional fundraising and participating in the LECOM Scholarship Auction, other fundraisers, and outreach activities; and
- Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution's needs.
Minimum Requirements

- Time management skills in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands;
- Willingness to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials;
- Establishing and maintaini g effective working relationships;
- Willingness to be flexible and accept other duties needed/assigned;
