Position Summary
Schedules patient testing, procedures, and admissions; obtains pre-certification/authorization numbers and enters them into scheduling or registration systems; ensures accurate insurance information is collected and recorded; and responds to incoming phone calls.
Ensures coordination of services and effective communication with patients, physicians, and staff to support efficient patient care delivery.
Position Details
- Reports to: Imaging Senior Director
- FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Minimum Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- OR a minimum of three (3) years of directly related experience may be substituted in lieu of education
Minimum Work Experience
- Prior scheduling experience in a healthcare environment strongly preferred
Required Skills
- Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment with ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to work effectively in a stressful environment
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize work based on patient and departmental needs
- Proficiency with standard office equipment (computer, copier, telephone, fax, scanner)
- Computer experience required
- Knowledge of medical terminology, billing, and/or collections preferred
Essential Functions
- Schedule patients for ancillary, surgical, and medical testing, procedures, and admissions while ensuring staff and resources are available
- Notify patients or physician office staff of out-of-network carriers or issues that may impact benefits
- Communicate special instructions, testing requirements, and other pertinent information to patients or physician offices
- Review scheduling reports for upcoming services to ensure readiness of registration staff, availability of time slots, and appropriate staffing
- Obtain physician orders and insurance authorization/pre-certification; enter outpatient procedures into the Order Entry System
- Ensure consistency between scheduling and admissions modules for patients being admitted
Non-Essential Functions
