The Lake County Workforce Development plays an integral role in preparing individuals for the evolving work environment and meeting the hiring and talent needs of local businesses. Workforce Development is seeking an Employment Specialist to join our team of professionals working with local businesses and industries. The ideal candidate who, under moderate supervision, will perform fairly complex work providing workforce solutions to businesses and industries in Lake County through business outreach, employer networking, and relationship building while connecting adults and youth with hiring opportunities.
- Identify new business contacts and customers through prospecting, cold calling, networking, and collaboration with Job Center Partners.
- Develop relationships with businesses to understand jobs and skills in demand by employers and connect individuals to jobs in demand.
- Research the job market (business, private, and public placement, partner programs, and staffing agencies) to identify employer labor needs as it relates to developing a skilled labor force.
- Conduct and participate in hiring events, job fairs, employment workshops, and create hiring solutions, including internships and sourcing resumes.
- Work as part of a team collecting data and relevant information to create reports and presentations to inform stakeholders on what is working well and where continuous improvement is needed.
- Follow-up with employers to determine the status of referred applicants.
- Solicit feedback from staff, employers, and partner programs on worker re-employment.
- Utilize customer relationship management system to capture business engagement.
- Review and expand on worker assessment results to develop an employment plan that ensures successful job placement and retention; educate workers regarding job and employer expectations.
- May assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
- All other related duties as assigned.
- Candidates must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with employers across diverse industries.
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Human Services, Workforce Development, or a related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- Certifications in career development or employer engagement are considered beneficial.
- A combination of education and at least two years of experience in employer outreach, job placement, sales, or workforce development may substitute for formal education.
