What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Driver position at Lake County YMCA?
LOOKING FOR A FUN JOB DURING THE SUMMER? The Central YMCA in Painesville is hiring bus drivers for the 2026 summer season.
Shifts:
- Substitute as needed, Monday - Friday, mornings and/or afternoons
Pay Rate: $25.00 starting rate and a free YMCA membership
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere.
- Drive the bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
- Complete thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and record all information.
- Maintain fuel levels and refuel as needed, record mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Clean out the bus each day.
- Always promote safety by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
- Ensure that bus rules are announced and followed.
- Develop friendly and positive relationships among staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
- Communicate regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
- Remain on-site at event locations (trip days) and be available by phone for emergencies or assistance.
- May also provide support in other areas as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum one year work experience as a bus driver.
- Valid CDL driver’s license.
- Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (bus).
- Complete Y provided CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications and Child Abuse Prevention Training.
- Valid Medical Exam Certificate, Form MCSA-5876. The YMCA will reimburse for the cost of the medical exam.
- Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Light work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- Frequently subject to environmental conditions and unstable surfaces. Activities occur mostly outside. Standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching frequently throughout the work shift. Use hands and fingers for fine motor skills frequently. Walking throughout the classroom, facility, property and ability to climb stairs frequently.
- Have visual acuity to determine safety, security and cleanliness of participants in the program as well as the facility.
- Receive detailed information through sound as well as express through spoken word.
- Read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
