**JOB LOCATIONS**
- All branch locations of the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.
- Courthouses located in Baldwin County and surrounding areas.
- All schools located in Baldwin County.
- All interstates, highways, and county roads in Baldwin County and surrounding areas as necessary.
- Deputy Sheriff positions involve exposure to and require the officer to function in the presence of the following:
- Inclement weather, to include extreme heat/cold, rain, ice, wind, etc.
- Light conditions associated with day and night.
- Fire, smoke, chemical leaks/spills - as close to proximity as necessary to provide emergency services.
- Personal danger, including but not limited to:
- Armed and/r dangerous persons, animals.
- Persons and/or articles with contagious communicable diseases.
- Enforces all applicable codes, ordinances, laws and regulations (both traffic and criminal) in order to protect ife and property, prevent crime, and promote security.
- Prevents/discovers commission of crime; apprehends, arrests and processes criminals, fugitives and offenders; writes citations.
- Responds to calls relayed by dispatchers, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, lost or missing persons searches, public service duties.
- Conducts preliminary investigations interviews victims, complainants and witnesses and takes statements gathers information and evidence, secures crime scenes.
- Inspects premises of residential /commercial buildings /properties to detect suspicious conditions.
- Attends court; testifies in judicial proceedings: attends bond hearings.
- Creates /maintains positive public relations with the general public.
- Performs various cour related functions as assigned (e.g.. serves warrants, subpoenas, and civil process documents performs court security functions; monitors/supervises offenders, etc).
- Provides assistance and backup support to other deputies as necessary; substitutes for co-workers in their absence; performs flexible unit assignments as needed in emergency response; provides emergency response on a twenty-four-hour basis as needed.
- Inspects and maintains assigned patrol vehicle, uniform, issued equipment, weapons, etc.
- Confers with supervisors, staff, deputies, and others as necessary to obtain information or resolve problems; contacts command/supervisory personnel by radio, telephone, voice mail, etc. for emergency response and critical incident communications.
- Communicates effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.
- Prepares reports, logs, citations, forms and other documentation; maintains files, logs and records; performs other clerical duties.
- Re eives various documentation, reviews, processes, responds, forwards, maintains, and or takes other action as appropriate.
- Maintains a comprehensive current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information/assistance by telephone or in person from the general public, court personnel, employees, officials, other agencies, or other persons.
- Answers the telephone, provides information; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
- Attends in-service and specialized training as required.
- Provides training or instruction to other deputies as assigned.
- Transports prisoners as required (e.g. to/and from court, correctional facilities, medical facilities, out of area facilities, etc).
- Provides traffic control and police protection for events such as parades, processions, funerals ball games, school crossings, etc.; provides security escort services to individuals, businesses or others as appropriate.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Conducts routine preventative patrol of assigned school premises and surrounding areas; maintains an open line of communication with all members of the school community.
- Attempts to maintain the peace and safety of the school community; maintains civil obedience at school functions.
- Resolves any and all complaints from members of the school community.
- Informs citizens of available services in the school; promotes crime prevention through community and educational programs; makes presentations to the public concerning crime prevention and related police matters in the school environment.
- Ma be required to work school sponsored evening events.
- Duties may also involve teaching school programs and other related public safety programs such as Shining Star Camp and the Explorer Program.
