JOB SUMMARY
The essential role of Community Relations Specialist is to maintain positive interaction with the citizens of Lake County via organized events either sponsored by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office or other organizations. They will also oversee programs within the Community Services division.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive an assigned motor vehicle with due care.
- Effectively and professionally communicate with members of the public as well as co-workers
- Organize, plan and implement programs and events.
- Oversee ongoing programs.
- Connect citizens of Lake County with programs offered by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office that may be beneficial to them.
- Assist citizens of Lake County with recommended crime prevention strategies.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Relations Specialists may be required to attend meetings, programs, events etc. held before or after normal business hours (0830-1700) to include weekends and may be required to adjust their normal work day to accommodate such meetings, programs, events etc.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must be a United States citizen.
- Must not have been convicted of a felony.
- Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character.
- Must not have been dishonorably discharged from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.
- Must meet visual requirements of at least correctable to 20/40 in each eye.
- Must complete all required job related training.
EXTERNAL and INTERNAL RELATIONSHIP and COMMUNICATION REQUISITE
- General public to include private citizens, businesses and governmental and municipal entities.
- Various other contacts relevant to specific department assignment.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS
- Must complete Florida Attorney General Crime Prevention Practitioner certification within a reasonable amount of time.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.

- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other public officials, force members and the general public.
- Must be able to follow directions and take orders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have cardiovascular strength and stamina including the ability to stand for up to an hour or more while representing the Sheriff’s Office at an event etc. Visual requirements include the ability to use visual depth, distance and color perception, night and peripheral vision. Must be able to use both hands simultaneously and have manual and finger dexterity, flexibility of upper body and limbs, strength in upper and lower body, legs, back, arms and hands. Must possess coordination in legs, arms, hands, eye-hand, and steadiness of hand/arm, physical speed, quick reflexes, and balance/equilibrium. Ability to walk, bend/lean over, twist/turn and maneuvers into and out of vehicles. Must be able to lift/push up to 40 pounds
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in various environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may encounter the following: chemicals, fumes, toxic substances, insects, noise, vibrations, slippery surfaces, lightning, explosives, oil, tobacco smoke, radiation, radar, allergenic substances, electrical hazards, possible burns, confined or cramped body position for extended periods, irregular eating and sleeping schedules, bodily injury, contact with blood, bodily fluids, infectious or contagious diseases. Weather conditions may include any combination of the following: humidity, low temperatures, high temperatures, heavy rain, exposure to sun, sudden temperature changes, hail, high winds, tornadoes, flooding, and hurricanes. Various terrains may be encountered including high grass, woods, ditches, muck, sand, and small hills, as well as water sources such as lakes, rivers, and streams.
