What are the responsibilities and job description for the Court Bailiff position at Lake County Juvenile Complex?
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Maintain security in courtrooms, court area and 2nd floor public area
· Provide a visible security presence in public areas of courthouse
· Ensure all court files are available for court hearings
· Distribute initial hearings evenly among the appropriate judicial officers
· Ensure public is advised of rights prior to court hearing
· Escort detained residents to and from court hearing
· Provide personal security for Magistrates and the Senior Judge
· Complete other duties as necessary or assigned
RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFEGUARDING ASSETS:
The position handles confidential files and information associated with the court and the detention center. All such information must be kept confidential and only shared on a need to know basis. The position is also responsible for the care of County equipment and property.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL:
The Bailiff would ideally have a background in Law Enforcement and meet the Knowledge/Skill requirements listed below:
· Complete firearms training successfully and re-qualify every other year
· Communicate effectively by telephone and in person
· Read with accuracy and understanding
· Maintain a negative drug screen
· Pass NCIC check
· Maintain a valid Indiana Driver’s License
· Demonstrate a working knowledge of juvenile law
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $43,000.00 per year
