The Lake County Workforce Development department plays an integral role in preparing individuals for work by developing, sourcing and recruiting talent for local businesses throughout Lake County. The Employability Skills Instructor plays a crucial role in the Climate Equity Jobs Act (CEJA) Waukegan HUB program by facilitating the work essential skills classroom training.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate in-person, cohort-based classes on essential work skills training for participants enrolled in the Climate Equitable Jobs Act programs.
  • Collaborate with enrolled participants to support skills development in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and professionalism. Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of program participants.
  • Assist transition coordinator(s) with individual participant transition plans, program progress, and follow-up services.
  • Utilize client management relationship tools for enrollment, progress, and performance.
  • Maintain relationships with partner agencies, referral sources, and education and training institutions.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure seamless delivery of services and support to participants.
  • Coordinate the end timesheet lifecycle with CEJA participants and CEJA Instructors.
  • Reporting; Ensuring accurate reporting in the ILWorkNet system for all CEJA activities.
  • Other essential departmental duties where support might be required.
  • Potential after-hours classes; evening or night classes.
  • All other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

  • To be successful in this role, the candidate should have completed a bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2 to 5 years of experience or has the competency and skills required to perform in this position.
  • Experience in workshop facilitation, career counseling, or workforce development.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to foster strong relationships with diverse program participants, team members, and community partners.
  • Excellent communication skills in a classroom setting as well as verbally and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with participants, team members, and community partners.
  • Familiarity with job search strategies and employment resources.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management systems.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
