Lake Chelan School District has a 1.0 FTE opening beginning with the 2026-2027 school year for an Elementary Music Teacher.
Position Overview:
The Elementary Music Teacher provides engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction to students in grades K–5, possibly PK in the future. The teacher fosters a positive learning environment where students explore musical concepts, develop performance skills, and build an appreciation for music. The position also supports school-wide arts and physical education programming and coordinates student musical performances throughout the year.
The interview process for the position will include meeting with an interview panel and responding to questions followed by a 20-minute demonstration music lesson with elementary students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver high-quality music instruction for students in grades K–5.
- Candidates will have musical literacy and a deep understanding of age appropriate music education for students aged 4-12.
- Teach fundamental music concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, reading of musical notes and performance.
- Develop lessons that encourage creativity, participation, and appreciation of diverse musical styles.
- Create opportunities for students to perform for peers, families, and community members inside the school and community including winter program and spring program in the evenings (a minimum of 2 programs for winter and 1-2 programs for spring K-2 and 3-5)
- Assist with planning and performance for Federal holiday assemblies such as Veterans Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Utilize existing elementary music program and expand upon concepts as necessary
- Prepare students for performances through rehearsals and coordination with school staff.
- Collaborate with CMS/CHS music teachers to support K-12 music program of study.
- Assist PE and art specialists with instruction and collaborative activities when needed.
- Maintain music equipment, instruments, and instructional materials.
- Establish a positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and respectful participation.
- Communicate with families and school staff regarding performances, student progress, and program activities.
- Participate in school events, initiatives, meetings, and professional development as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Elementary Teaching Certificate (state-issued).
- Ability and willingness to assist PE and Art specialists with instruction and collaborative activities.
- Experience or ability to organize and lead school musical performances, including winter and spring programs.
- Ability to play at least one instrument and/or read music proficiently.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and support a positive school culture.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Music Teaching Endorsement.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English.
- Experience teaching elementary music or directing student performances.
- Ability to integrate music with other academic and arts programs.
- Experience with Positive Behavior Support for students

- Passion for music education and working with elementary students.
- Strong organizational and event planning skills.
- Strong positive classroom management strategies appropriate for elementary aged students.
- Ability to utilize instructional technology to enhance student music experience.
- Creativity in lesson design and performance preparation.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff across disciplines.
Work Environment:
- School-based setting with regular classroom instruction in PK-5 classroom
- May require moving of musical equipment for practice and performance needs.
- Involves preparing students for performances and occasional evening events such as concerts or programs.
