DESCRIPTION:
Lake Area Technical College (LATC) is seeking a dynamic, student-centered Surgical Technology Instructor to join our growing Surgical Technology program. This position is responsible for providing high-quality didactic, laboratory, simulation, and clinical instruction that prepares students for entry into the surgical technology profession and successful completion of the NBSTSA national certification examination.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
- Utilize diverse instructional methodologies and technology-enhanced learning strategies to support student success.
- Develop, revise, and maintain curriculum materials aligned with ARC/STSA accreditation standards, AST Core Curriculum, and NBSTSA expectations.
- Facilitate student learning through hands-on laboratory instruction, clinical simulations, skills assessments, and real-world surgical case applications.
- Evaluate student performance using written exams, competency assessments, practical evaluations, simulations, and clinical feedback.
- Provide academic advising, mentoring, and support for student progression and professional development.
- Maintain accurate student records, attendance, assessment data, and required program documentation.
- Participate in program assessment, accreditation reporting, curriculum review, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with faculty, clinical affiliates, advisory board members, and college administration to support program goals and student achievement.
- Promote professionalism, patient safety, ethical practice, and surgical conscience within the learning environment.
- Maintain current knowledge of surgical technology practice, educational strategies, accreditation standards, and industry trends through professional development.
- Participate in college committees, recruitment activities, advisory meetings, and community outreach initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate degree or higher in Surgical Technology or related healthcare field.
- Graduation from a surgical technology program accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
- Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential through NBSTSA or another nationally accredited certification agency recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
- Minimum of two years of recent experience in the surgical scrub role or surgical technology instruction within the past five years, consistent with ARC/STSA standards.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, instrumentation, surgical pharmacology, and perioperative patient care.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with computer applications, learning management systems, and instructional technology.

SALARY: $44,277.97 - $66,416.95
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186-day contract starting Fall 2026 (August). Salary and benefits are set by the Watertown Board of Education in accordance with the state postsecondary technical instructor salary formula.
