Experienced Veterinary Technician

Lake Area Animal Hospital is seeking an organized, compassionate and service-oriented Veterinary technician to join our team. As a Veterinary technician, a typical day might include the following

• Keeping accurate medical records in accordance with hospital policy
• Performing physical assessments; record observations legibly
• Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis
• Handling client’s medical questions with confidence and directing to veterinarians when appropriate
• Preparing estimates for procedures and discuss financial commitments with clients supporting hospital financial policies
• Explaining necessary follow-up and homecare instructions
• Performing clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures; drawing blood for laboratory analysis; maintaining files of lab test results and ensures that test results are recorded in patient records
• Effectively positioning for and taking radiographs
• Placing IV catheters and properly caring for them
• Ability to give SQ, IM, and IV injections
• Knowledge of how to prepare and scrub surgical sites for sterile procedures
• Possess the confidence and knowledge to be able to assist the veterinarian during surgeries by handing out necessary surgical tools, maintaining wounds, change dressings, and monitor vitals during the procedure.
• Knowlege of usage, dosage, and common side effects for commonly used prescription drugs and ability to readily explain them to the clients
• Knowledge of the common anesthesia and recovery states and the ability to alert veterinarians when symptoms change or when concerns arise with hospitalized patients
• Ability to properly extubate, monitor temperature and recover a patient from anesthesia

To land this gig, you must have at least 1 year experience as a veterinary technician. We would love to have you on our team!!

Salary: $11.00 - $16 per hour
