Job Title: Elementary Physical Education (PE) Teacher Assistant (PreK–2nd Grade)

Position Summary:
The Elementary PE Teacher Assistant supports the Physical Education program for students in grades PreK through 2. This position assists the PE teacher in delivering age-appropriate physical education activities, promotes positive student engagement, ensures safety during physical activities, and helps cultivate a love for movement and fitness among young learners. The assistant also aids in classroom management, equipment setup, and the implementation of instructional and recreational activities aligned with district curriculum standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the PE teacher in planning and delivering daily physical education lessons.
- Assist with organizing, setting up, and maintaining PE equipment and instructional materials.
- Supervise students during PE classes, recess, and other physical activities to ensure safety and proper participation.
- Provide individual or small-group assistance to students who need additional support or instruction.
- Help manage student behavior in accordance with school and classroom expectations.
- Reinforce positive social interactions, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Assist in maintaining accurate records, attendance, and student progress as directed.
- Help prepare gym spaces, outdoor areas, and classrooms for various activities.
- Support inclusion and accommodations for students with diverse physical or developmental needs.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the PE teacher or school administration.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Education: Hold an associate's degree or higher, or 48 college credit hours, or a high school diploma/GED with verification of ACT WorkKeys Scores (Silver level - Applied Math, Graphic Literacy, and Workplace Documents).
- Previous experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in a school or recreational setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work effectively with young children (ages 4–8) in a structured learning environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of basic physical education principles and child development.
- Ability to maintain a positive, encouraging, and safe environment.
- Capability to lift, move, and organize PE equipment as needed.
- Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented attitude.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in gymnasiums, playgrounds, and outdoor fields.
- Physical activity is frequent and may involve activities such as lifting, bending, running, or assisting children with movement exercises.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor activities.
Performance Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with district policy and administrative guidelines.
