About Central Catholic Jr. Sr. High School

Established in 1957, Central Catholic Jr. Sr. High School is a Roman Catholic school serving grades 7-12 within the Diocese of Lafayette in Indiana. Central Catholic is an A-rated school by the Indiana Department of Education, serving over 450 students.

Central Catholic graduates 100% of its students, with over 90% continuing on to college. Our school emphasizes academic rigor, faith formation, service, leadership, and student well-being.

Central Catholic is part of the Lafayette Catholic School System (LCSS), a five-campus Pre-K-12 system serving more than 1,000 students across Tippecanoe County. LCSS schools include:

  • St. Mary Cathedral School (K–3)
  • St. Boniface School (4–6)
  • St. Lawrence School (K–6)

Overall Responsibility

LCSS is seeking a Junior High/High School Counselor to provide comprehensive academic advising, college and career counseling, and social-emotional support to students in grades 7-12.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide individual and group counseling services
  • Advocate for students and systems that support student success
  • Collaborate closely with families, faculty, and administrators
  • Help manage and continuously improve a strong, data-informed student services program


Major Job Responsibilities

Academic Advising & College/Career Counseling

  • Integrate the Indiana School Counseling Competencies across the domains of academic, career, and social-emotional development in all advising and counseling practices.
  • Design, develop, and deliver developmentally appropriate lessons and presentations in classrooms and small-group settings that support:
  • Academic planning, goal setting, and progress monitoring
  • Career exploration, career awareness, and postsecondary readiness
  • Social-emotional learning skills that support academic success and self-advocacy
  • Provide individualized academic advising to students and families, including:
  • Assisting students in selecting courses aligned with graduation requirements, postsecondary goals, and the Indiana College Core (when applicable)
  • Collaborating with students and parents to develop and review schedules for the upcoming school year
  • Creating individualized four-year graduation plans for 8th-grade students to support a successful transition into high school
  • Support students through key academic and developmental transitions, including middle school to high school and high school to postsecondary pathways.
  • Plan and present informational sessions for parents and families on topics such as:
  • Middle school and high school transitions
  • Diploma pathways and course selection
  • The role of school counselors in supporting student academic, social-emotional, and college/career development
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and student services staff to ensure consistent communication, alignment of supports, and shared responsibility for student success.


Counseling Services

  • Provide individual, group, and crisis counseling for students experiencing personal, social, or emotional concerns that interfere with learning
  • Coordinate referrals to outside agencies when appropriate
  • Consult with administrators, teachers, and parents to support individual students and student groups


Student Advocacy

  • Advocate for high expectations and equitable access to support for all students
  • Collaborate with teachers and families to develop academic and social-emotional support plans
  • Participate in school improvement initiatives that promote student well-being and success


Program Management

  • Support and manage the effective "behind-the-scenes" operations of a comprehensive school counseling program to ensure alignment with school goals, student needs, and best practices.
  • Plan, coordinate, and document counseling program activities, initiatives, and services, ensuring intentional design, clear objectives, and consistent implementation.
  • Build and sustain community partnerships and professional networks with local organizations, mental health providers, colleges, and agencies to expand resources and supports available to students and families.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential student records and counseling documentation, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collect, analyze, and utilize program data to evaluate the effectiveness of counseling services, inform decision-making, and support continuous program improvement.
  • Assist with counseling program evaluation processes, including outcome tracking, needs assessments, and reporting to stakeholders.


Professionalism

  • Adhere to the ethical standards, professional codes of conduct, and best practices established by state and national school counseling organizations.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations impacting school counseling, student services, confidentiality, and student rights, and apply this knowledge appropriately in daily practice.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous professional growth and lifelong learning through ongoing professional development, licensure maintenance, participation in workshops, conferences, professional organizations, and engagement with current research and best practices.
  • Exhibit professionalism in communication, collaboration, decision-making, and interactions with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
  • Serve as a positive role model and advocate for the school counseling profession within the school community.

Education & Experience Qualifications

  • Must meet Indiana licensing requirements for School Counselor
  • 3–5 years of experience in middle and/or high school counseling preferred
  • Experience with Naviance, or similar college and career platform, strongly preferred
  • Experience with Student Information Systems (SIS), such as PowerSchool strongly preferred
  • Experience with standardized testing, coordinating and/or administering
  • Experience developing a master schedule preferred but not required
