Job Summary: A Dietary Aid focuses on preparing and serving meals to inpatients that meet the patient’s nutritional needs while following health, safety, and sanitation. This role plays a crucial role in our patient’s food service experience. The primary responsibility will be to take patients food orders, assist with preparing their meal, delivering their meal, and following up with the patient after they are finished with the meal while picking up their trays to ensure that the patient has had a great food experience. The Dietary Aid will work closely with OMC’s Dietician team to ensure the patient is receiving the proper meal for their therapeutic diet. It’s a great way to make a difference in our patients’ journey to wellness and a way to get started in the healthcare industry.
Work Schedule:
Monday- Sunday: 6AM-7PM
Scheduled work times: 6AM-2PM
4PM-7PM
Qualifications:
Knowledge of food safety and sanitization. High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Basic computer skills. Previous food service experience preferred, particularly in a healthcare or nursing home setting. Ability to stand, walk, lift, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity for extended periods of time. Strong communication, convey compassion, accountability, and to be a team player. Most importantly, put the patient first.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivery of meal trays to patients according to their therapeutic diet while following proper policies and procedures.
- Assisting patients with meal ordering and delivery of patient trays
- Helping prep food items sold both in Acorn Grill and for patient meal service.
- Preforming foodservice operations preparing food trays, proper maintenance of equipment, following sanitization policies.
- Maintaining the inventory of food and other supplies used in patient Nutrition Rooms.
- Delivery of meals to other department areas at OMC. Ex: OB, ER, Oncology.
- Maintaining and cleaning the kitchen prep spaces and all equipment from patient meal service.
- Recording temperatures.
- Assist with ordering food and supplies as needed and assist with deliveries.
- Stocking all department Nutrition rooms with snack and supplies and cleaning such as fridge and coffee equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates OMC’s Core Behavior Standards in daily work.
- Ability to understand and apply the principles of therapeutic diets (ex. IDDSI) and food allergens.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic math, knowledge in basic food service equipment operation, safe food handling and sanitization.
- Working knowledge of portion sizes, ability to calculate figures and amounts such as recipe conversion, cash register, online ordering, weights and measures, discounts, proportions, and volume.
- Effectively participate in the interdisciplinary care team.

Physical Requirements for the Role:
The ability to walk for extended periods of time. Annual dexterity to manipulate food trays and properly move around patient’s room. Ability to move large objects and carry heavy trays of food and liquid.
Work Environment:
Primary work location will be in Acorn grill amongst the kitchen team preparing meal trays for the patients. Secondary location that only Dietary Aids frequent will be in the Hospital, delivering meal trays to the patients of OMC. This will include the Labor and Delivery rooms and inpatient rooms. There are 18 inpatient rooms in the Hospital wing and 3 OB rooms in the Labor and Delivery wing.
