ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES

The Part-Time Head Men’s Wrestling Coach is responsible for the leadership, direction, and day-to-day management of the intercollegiate men’s wrestling program. Responsibilities include practice planning, athlete development, recruiting, academic oversight, fundraising, and program administration. The Head Coach must demonstrate strong leadership, uphold the mission of the Athletics Department, and maintain strict adherence to NCAA Division II and PSAC compliance and eligibility standards.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and organizational skills, a commitment to student-athlete success, and a deep understanding of collegiate wrestling fundamentals and athlete development.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coaching & Athlete Development

  • Plan and lead structured practices, individual skill instruction, and competition preparation for the men’s wrestling program.
  • Provide technical instruction in wrestling fundamentals.
  • Foster a positive team culture emphasizing discipline, sportsmanship, accountability, and academic commitment.
  • Develop seasonal and off-season training plans aligned with competitive and developmental goals.


Recruiting

  • Develop and implement a year-round recruiting plan.
  • Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Maintain relationships with high school and club coaches.
  • Meet roster targets established annually by the Director of Athletics.


Compliance (NCAA & PSAC)

  • Ensure full compliance with NCAA Division II, PSAC, and institutional rules.
  • Maintain accurate compliance documentation.
  • Participate in required compliance education.


Academic Oversight

  • Monitor academic progress and eligibility.
  • Enforce academic support requirements.
  • Communicate with academic support staff.


Program Administration & Team Management

  • Supervise assistant or volunteer coaches.
  • Coordinate travel logistics.
  • Manage program resources responsibly.


Facilities & Equipment

  • Oversee equipment inventory and facility use.


Fundraising & Program Advancement

  • Participate in fundraising initiatives.


Public Relations & Community Engagement

  • Represent the College professionally.


KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques.
  • Understanding of NCAA Division II and PSAC rules.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.


EXPERIENCE

  • Two to three years of coaching experience preferred.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to demonstrate techniques and lift up to 50 pounds.


ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

  • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director.
