CNA/HCA Job Description – Adult Family Home / Family Home Setting
Position Title: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Home Care Aide (HCA)
Location: Private Adult Family Home / Family Home Setting
Reports To: Owner, Administrator, or Licensed Nurse
Employment Type: Full Time / Part Time / Relief
Position Summary:
The CNA/HCA provides compassionate, hands-on care and daily living assistance to residents in a family home setting. This position supports residents’ physical, emotional, and social well-being while helping maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable home environment. The caregiver works closely with the care team to ensure individualized care plans are followed and residents are treated with dignity and respect.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including: Bathing, Dressing, Grooming, Toileting and incontinence care, Mobility and transfers, Eating and hydration support
- Monitor and report changes in residents’ condition, behavior, or needs
- Take and document vital signs as assigned
- Assist with medication reminders or medication administration as allowed by state regulations and training
- Prepare meals and assist with feeding when needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment
- Assist with housekeeping duties including laundry, linen changes, and light cleaning
- Provide companionship and emotional support to residents
- Follow individualized care plans and chart resident care accurately
- Use proper body mechanics and safe transfer techniques
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and resident needs
- Maintain resident confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, coworkers, and healthcare professionals
Qualifications
- Current CNA or HCA certification/license in the state of employment
- Current CPR/First Aid certification preferred
- Experience in caregiving, long-term care, assisted living, or adult family homes preferred
- Ability to safely lift, transfer, and assist residents
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, dependable, patient, and professional demeanor
- Ability to work independently in a home-like environment
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout shifts
- Ability to lift and transfer residents with or without assistance devices
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks
Work Environment
This position works within a residential family home setting providing direct care to elderly, disabled, or medically fragile residents in a home-like atmosphere.

Preferred Skills
