JOB DESCRIPTION Laboratory Quality Supervisor
Location: La Porte, TX
Position Summary:The Lab Quality Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the laboratory's quality management system while actively supporting laboratory testing operations. This role ensures the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of analytical results by maintaining compliance with company procedures, industry standards, and applicable regulatory requirements, including ISO 17025.
Working closely with laboratory leadership and technical staff, the Lab Quality Supervisor monitors daily quality control activities, evaluates analytical performance, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen laboratory operations
Essential Functions:
- Monitor daily quality control (QC) data, including control charts, control samples, and analytical performance metrics to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
- Identify quality trends, investigate out-of-specification or out-of-control results, and coordinate corrective actions to resolve quality issues.
- Support continuous improvement by providing guidance and feedback to laboratory personnel on quality performance and best practices.
- Perform routine laboratory testing using approved analytical methods and operate laboratory instrumentation in accordance with established procedures.
- Evaluate test results for accuracy and completeness, perform retests or reproducibility checks when necessary, and document findings using proper laboratory practices.
- Communicate abnormal or significant analytical results to laboratory management and assist with root cause investigations.
- Ensure laboratory equipment and workstations are properly maintained, cleaned, and ready for routine operation.
- Manage quality control samples, reference materials, and proficiency testing materials to ensure availability, traceability, and compliance with quality requirements.
- Coordinate the preparation, verification, monitoring, and replacement of QC materials used throughout laboratory operations.
- Review, maintain, and update laboratory SOPs, work instructions, and quality system documentation to ensure compliance with company procedures and applicable industry standards.
- Assist with internal audits, external audits, accreditation activities, and quality assessments, ensuring timely completion of corrective actions and documentation.
- Collaborate with laboratory leadership to improve quality systems, analytical processes, and overall laboratory performance while promoting a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific field preferred
- 5 years laboratory experience
- Prior supervisory experience
- Experience with quality systems, ISO17025 required
- Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time

- Ability to work in laboratory environments with petroleum or chemical odors within OSHA permissible exposure limits
- Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required
- Laboratory setting with potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals
Moderate noise environment - Compliance with all laboratory safety and environmental policies is required

Shift Schedule:
Typical Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
